Euchre version 0.6 is smarter

If you have been playing with 0.5 and getting beat pretty badly, delete that and get 0.6

Played the Euchre, 0.6, for over two hours and didn't win a game.

Preliminary results:
Does play without freezing.
Does not take bid, ever, even when it should with both jacks and aces. Only time a bid is taken up is when the pogobot partner takes it and that doesn't happen much. Most importantly does not win a game.
Thanks for trying.

I am testing EUCHRE PLAYER 0.6 and I have found two errors with game logic.
The first is when it had an appropriate hand to go alone. J-J-K-10 of trump and A non-trump. Only problem, on the first trick, it trumped the opponents with the J instead of the 10. Of course, one of the bots had two trump, one being the A. Instead of winning 4 points, only won ONE point. This game continued and was lost 10-9. It should have been OVER with the 4-point hand.

The second and more profound game logic error is frequent confusion when leading trump. If it has two trump, the lesser jack and another one, IT WILL LEAD THE LESSER JACK. The Pogo Bots gobble it up with their BIGGER JACK. It will often lead ACE of trump for no reason, only to get it gobbled by the opponents jack.

It managed to win two games after losing 7 straight. It lost the thied game. I am running it overnight. I noticed that you added a running total of wins and losses. Can you add a WIN STREAK number as well when this client gets updated again.

Finally, the client works in VISTA but is just sitting there in WINDOWS 2000. It finds the game window and then proceeds to dither. Kickstarting in WINDOWS 2000 does nothing.

Joe C,
You're analysis is always impressive, articulate, and to the point. Your feedback is the most informative on the blog, at least in my opinion.

I ran it overnight. It played until Pogo shut down the servers for maintenance. EuchrePlayer 0.6 played 63 games, winning 18 and losing 47. Therefore, it successfully got the Mix badge SWORD KING, requiring 12 wins. U do not have any proof that it either could or could not win the Euchre Champ badge as it is currently configured.

As for the new weekly challenge badge coming out on Wednesday, requiring us to win a game by two or more points, Euchre Master should be able to do so after about 10 games. I have seen it win by two or more on several occasions.

Euchre Master is an improvement. It needs the game play tweaks mentioned and it needs to function in WINDOWS 2000. It WORKS in VISTA and will get most badges, but it is painful to watch. Fortunately, there are no ranks in EUCHRE.

Thanks and thanks again to JJ for the kind words. I like testing programs! :)

I thought I corrected the typo. It is not U that does not have any proof, it is "I do not have any proof...."

Again, I think this update will get the weekly badge tomorrow, but it will not be very pretty.

When I was testing the program last night I saw 2 wins by 1 point on Windows XP. That won't get the challenge tomorrow.
Here's hoping thee is time for a further tweak. Those pogobots are just really good at this game.
Joe C, You are very welcome!

Oscar,
I am currently running the latest update. Lost:27 Won:2 Res9
Aside from the painful stats, what does Res mean?
Is there any help for this weeks challenge. The stats coupled with needing the win to be by 2 points is problematic. One of the worst losses was 10-1.

I sumbitted a TSR for EUCHRE PLAYER 0.6 in WINDOWS 2000. It is not clicking the bid/pass button. After that, it is not clicking the cards.

THIS ONLY OCCURRED IN WINDOWS 2000. EUCHRE PLAYER 0.6 is working and stable in VISTA and just needs the game play logic updated mentioned above.

I think that "RES" stands for the number of resets. I think this includes pauses where the card play is changed, for example, if you stop the client and bid, it will add one to the RES total.

I will see if I can get the badge tonight. I will also set the MIX AND MATCH BADGE "Euchre Champ", requring 3 Wins in a Row. I will see how it works.

Joe C,
Thanks for the info. I didn't pause the client at all so I'm not sure about the meaning of Res, unless the client resets itself. Looking at the score, I thought the Res might have something to do with when a game was tied.
I listed the stats from the client while I was trying to get Euchre Champ again. I think with Windows XP, it may just be a matter of luck in winning that badge with the client. It did get Following Suit this week. I was pleasantly surprised. I think that because it is a challenge week that pogo resets to allow for the 2 point wins. I did notice the 2 wins today were both 2 point wins. Usually, if there is a win, it is only by 1 point.
Thanks for your efforts. You are helpful to all of us.

I ran EUCHRE PLAYER 0.6 overnight. I let it play for 100 games so we could get nice percentage. I also had the EUCHRE CHAMP Mix badge activated, requiring 3 straight wins.

As an aside, EUCHRE PLAYER 0.6 won the weekly challenge before I ran the overnight test. The weekly challenge required a win by 2 points.

From the overnight test, 24 wins and 76 losses. It managed at least ONE three-win streak, as EUCHRE PLAYER 0.6 won the EUCHRE CHAMP badge during its session. Therefore, all badges are at least POSSIBLE using the current client. The findings were from VISTA.

Finally, I was unable to test in WINDOWS 2000 as EUCHRE PLAYER 0.6 does not click the NEW GAME button in the WAITING FOR PLAYER(S) popup window. You should have my TSR for that.

I await the next version of EUCHRE PLAYER to test.

Thanks
Joe

Oscar,
I ran an overnight test on EuchrePlayer with the Euchre Champ badge activated running Windows XP. It was a beginners private room. The client would win 2 in a row and not only lost the third game, but really get slammed on the third game.
I know that Joe C has made valid remarks about errors in logic and trump play and his analysis is on target. Plus, the client does seem to sabatage itaself on this badge.
I'd really like to get this one out of the way.
Thanks.
